The Rockbridge Hunt Fall Hunter Pace will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at Goose Creek Highlands, Raphine.
A hunter pace is a competitive equestrian event where riders and their horses follow a marked trail, simulating the conditions of a foxhunt. The event is low-key and is meant to be accessible for all types of riders.
The Hunter Pace series includes the Bedford County Hunt, Glenmore Hunt, Oakridge Hunt and Rockbridge Hunt. Each participant, of the eight paces held spring to fall, is awarded points toward the series championship. Each pace is divided into four divisions, riding for an optimum per determined time of a typical hunting day.
The course is approximately five miles, along Goose Creek, open and wooded terrain with jumps of logs, poles and stone walls.
Riders will go on course at 10 a.m. with the last entry by 1 p.m. Those who would like to bring a tailgate picnic and chair are welcome and can meet the Rockbridge hounds and their huntsman. Goose Creek Highlands is located at 372 Davis Road in Raphine.
