The big news this week of course is the havoc caused by Hurricane Helene up and down the East Coast. Our immediate area was spared, but videos from other areas bring memories of years past when our area suffered from devastating floods. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those effected.
Brandall Branch has returned home after riding out the hurricane in Florida. He was able to send word that he and others with him were safe. Word was also received from former Glasgow native Eddie Matthews and family, who now reside in Fort Myers, Fla., that all were safe.
Due to the weather, the Glasgow Farmers Market was closed this past weekend, but will reopen this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as usual. Plans are to be open on Fridays only through October.
Mark your calendars for Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. when the Concerned Citizens Organization will sponsor a cakewalk at the Thompson Center. All are invited to participate and cake donations would be appreciated.
The annual “trunk or treat” in Glasgow will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Locher Pavilion. Nonperishable canned foods will be collected again this year, in exchange for a ticket for a hotdog and s’mores kit. The food will be donated to the Natural Bridge-Glasgow food pantry.
Stay informed on what is happening in town. Town Council meetings are open to the public and are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm at the library. If you need to bring something before Council, you are asked to contact Town Hall to be put on the agenda.
