GOP ‘Does Not Support’ Election ‘Guardrails’

Oct. 4, 2024 Editor, the News-Gazette: I am writing in response to Mr. Johnny Lane of Buena Vista, who in last week’s paper invited readers to educate him if we believe that any of his opinions are flawed regarding the Party of Death.

Mr. Lane needs only read a letter of that same week to see that he has been misled about immigration policy. Letters over these past months have addressed his other concerns as well, and if he needs further elaboration I would be happy to meet him over coffee and discuss his opinions at his convenience.

Mr. Lane says that President John Kennedy would not recognize the current Democratic Party. I include a link to a speech that was given on this subject, which can be found on file at the John F. Kennedy Presidential library: https://www.jfklibrary. org/archives/other-resources/ john-f-kennedy-speeches/pittsburgh- pa-19470603. I t appears that Kennedy would very much recognize the same Democratic Party.

The bottom line is that the 2024 Democratic ticket maintains that no one is above the law, that elections must be free and fair, and that there must be a peaceful transfer of power when the results are in. The Republican ticket does not support these principles. Without these guardrails, it doesn’t matter what opinions we have, because our vote will no longer matter.
