Eagles Soar Past ‘Cats, 42-7

The Rockbridge County High School football team suffered a 42-7 home loss to Valley District rival East Rockingham on Friday night in Lexington at Prasnicki-Ross Field at Veterans Stadium.

It was the Rockbridge Area Recreation Organization’s Little League Night, in which RARO players and staff member were recognized on the field, the Wildcats fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the district.

The Eagles (5-1 overall, 2-0 district) took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. East Rockingham started with a 31-yard screen pass to wide receiver Xavia Brown, who finished the drive with a shortyardage goal line run. Late in the quarter, ER extended its lead to 14-0 with a 57-yard touchdown run stemming from an outside option toss handoff from quarterback Parker Siever to Brown.

The Eagles tacked on two more TDs from Siever to go up 28-0 at halftime.

RC’s only big play of the night would come from an 82-yard kickoff return for a TD by junior Marshall Earhart in the third quarter to cut the Eagles’ lead to 35-7. ER scored one more TD before the game ended.

Statistics were not provided in time for this game. The Wildcats will continue district action at Harrisonburg (0-5, 0-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
