The seventh annual Run of the Mill 5-kilometer run/walk on the morning of Sept. 21 welcomed 37 participants from age 4 to 80 and was a successful fundraiser for the Brownsburg Community Association.
The event raised money for student scholarships, first responders and community health initiatives. Event director John Siegfried said he was grateful for the runners, volunteers and sponsors. After the race, Siegfried presented prizes to the top finishers, the oldest and youngest finishers, and the first dog.
Winning the hilly race, which went from Brownsburg to historic Wade’s Mill in Raphine, was Charlie Cosgriff in 20 minutes, 42 seconds. Steve Gray placed second in 21:14, and Darby Cosgrifff placed third in 21:48. The first female finisher was Michelle Trayer, finishing in 22:51. Laura Decoster placed third among females at 28:14, and Krissy Whitesell was the third woman in, clocking 29:47.
The youngest male finisher was Gus Cosgriff, who is in the under-10 age group, while the youngest female finisher was Ruby McRoberts, 4. The oldest finisher was Juanita Poole, who is in the 71-and-over age group. Gus finished in 45:16, and Poole crossed the line in 49:51. The first dog in was Lulu, who ran with Leigh Beard.
Age group winners were Charlie Shipman (boys under-10, 40:37), Ruby McRoberts (girls under-10, 48:35), Charlie Cosgriff (boys 10-15), Marian Whipple (girls 10-15, 38:22), Keller Wolfe (men 16-20, 27:52), Krissy Whitesell (women 16-20), Justin Harrah (men 21-30, 30:11), Emily Mattioli (women 21-30, 29:54), Jarrett Harlow (men 31-40, 55:04), Emily Fary (women 31-40, 48:36), Steve Gray (men 41-50, 21:14), Sara Whipple (women 41-50, 38:33), Eric Pritchett (men 5160, 23:12), Michelle Trayer (women 51-60, 22:51), Jeffrey Pletcher (men 61-70, 30:59), Drury Whitaker (women 61-70, 39:57), Eddie Bartley (men 71-and-over, 49:52) and Juanita Poole (women 71-and-over).
