Folks at May’s Grocery in Buena Vista had a bit of excitement on Friday afternoon when a car caught fire in the parking lot. Buena Vista Police Chief Wayne Handley reported that the driver of the car, upon noticing that his car was “running funny,” pulled into the grocery’s parking lot. When he put the car in park, he “heard something backfire.” A bystander then noticed the fire and informed the driver, who exited the vehicle without injury. Some officers with the Buena Vista Police Department were nearby and responded to the scene, as did the Buena Vista Fire Department. (photo by Carolyn Finley Holtman)
