High Bridge

Esther Pennington, 540-291-2629 This past Sunday, High Bridge Presbyterian Church took up a special offering for the victims of hurricane Helene from Spruce Pine, N.C., the home of our Rev. Willis’ family.

The congregational meeting this past Sunday elected new church officers for class of 2027. They were Dwinnie Shafer and Sam Vest, elders; and deacons Dawn Manspile, Dane West and David Whitmore.

The Rev. Steve Willis will conduct a new membership class after church worship for those wishing to join or any member can attend.

Visiting church this Sunday were Travis, Sharon Ann and Bear Tolley of Staunton as well as 2nd Lt. Gabe, Arabella and Evianna Tolley.

The Presbyterian Women’s Coordinating team is making plans for the fall chili cook-off in November. Leigh Ann McCoy, chairperson of the PW Nominating Committee, will present a slate of new officers at the Nov. 3 PWCT meeting.

The Shafer family reunion was held at the home of Jane Shafer on Saturday, Sept. 28. Family members attended from Winston-Salem, N.C., Covington, Chesterfield, Amelia, Roanoke and Salem as well as our local area.

The Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, and close at 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting cranberry sauce, stuffing and sweet potatoes for the food pantry during the month of October.
