In celebration of 35 years of service to the community, Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity hosted its annual Chill on the Hill “friend raiser” at Great Valley Farm Brewery & Winery Sunday, Oct. 6.

Board of director and staff members mingled with the crowd, raising awareness of Habitat’s vital affordable housing mission, inviting new and longtime friends to help build a better tomorrow for their neighbors with limited means through volunteer service.

“Everyone seemed to have a great time,” said Lynne Johson, RAHfH executive director. “We were excited this year to incorporate some raffle prizes, and, after our initial rain postponement, ended up with about as perfect a day as you could hope for.”

Winner of the first-place prize was Heather Paredes, who took home a painting by local artist Ryan Russell.

Heather Davis, The Lexington Mercantile, and Zosia Koehler, Lexington, each won a gift certificate to Habitat’s ReStores.

Lisa McGuire won third prize, logoed Habitat outerwear.

This year’s Chill on the Hill featured live music by local artists Koty and Lewane and food by Lexington Mercantile.

Proceeds from the annual event support Rockbridge Area Habitat’s mission to eliminate substandard housing in Rockbridge County.

“We owe so much of the success of this event to our sponsors, especially CornerStone Bank, Charles W. Barger & Son, and Kendal of Lexington,” said Johnson. “So many local businesses stepped up to support this wonderful community event, which ultimately serves to strengthen our community in so many important ways.”
