Oct. 16, 1974

The Lexington City School Board decided in a special meeting to seek full ownership of Lexington High School, which was jointly owned and operated by the city and the county. - Mel Greenberg, who led many people in the Rockbridge area into believing he was auditioning community members for a film that was allegedly being made here, had his day in court. He was sentenced to three to six months in jail for passing bad checks. - Washington and Lee University’s board of trustees named a freshman dormitory in honor of Frank Gilliam, dean of students and admissions director for more than 30 years.

David Kleppinger, executive director of the Rockbridge Area Economic Development Commission, told members of the commission that a group of investors was interested in privatizing the Virginia Horse Center. . - Leslie Ayers, swimming coach at Rockbridge County High School and manager of the Lexington city pool, brought a proposal before Lexington’s physical services committee to build a winterized six-lane lap pool to be covered by an allweather bubble.

- Lexington City Attorney Larry Mann announced his write-in candidacy for Virginia’s 6th District congressional seat held by Rep. Bob Goodlatte.
