The Buena Vista Police Department is investigating a number of thefts from cars at the Hillcrest Manor Apartments last week. Six thefts were reported on the morning of Oct. 11, having occurred overnight the night before, with reports of additional thefts within the area coming in over the weekend.
Buena Vista Police Chief Wayne Handley told The News-Gazette on Monday that the cars were unlocked and had not been damaged during the thefts. A variety of items were taken, including sunglasses, loose change and one wallet. In a post to the department’s Facebook page on Friday, Handley encouraged city residents to lock their cars and to remove valuables when leaving their cars overnight.
