Lexington Presbyterian invites the public to gather for a simple prayer service on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary to reflect on and mourn the horrific violence that mars our world and God’s creation.
The purpose of the service is to raise voices in lamentation with victims of violence, and pray for individual and collective strength to envision, participate in, and move toward peace, say organizers.
The catalyst for this service is the weight of the world’s violence in this season, particularly the war in Gaza and the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, and gun violence in the United States. Those gathered for the service will focus their attention and prayers on the impacts of violence on individuals, families, communities, nations, and the world.
Organizers of the event invite those in attendance to ask, how can a follower of Christ Jesus, prince of peace and nonviolent revolutionary, respond to the weight of violence’s impacts? Lament, the timeless practice of crying out to God in anguish, is one step, they say.
All are welcome at this informal service. For more information, call Lexington Presbyterian Church at (540) 463-3873.
