Deborah Potter McCormick, 540-463-7652

This Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the Effinger community churches and the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will welcome children to a “trunk or treat” activity in the firehouse parking lot. This year’s event will be filled with treats, a strolling magician and lots of fun. Church members will be in decorated cars handing out candy to children. Participating are the Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Church and the Union View Advent Christian churches. Come enjoy an afternoon of fun!

The Collierstown United Methodist Church will open its doors on Saturday evening, Oct. 26, for area residents to enjoy a spaghetti supper beginning at 5 p.m. The meal includes all-youcan- eat spaghetti, tossed salad, bread, dessert and assorted beverages. The cost of the meal is by donation.

Members and friends of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church are completing the preparations for the church’s annual dinner on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Country ham, fried oyster and turkey dinners will be available for dining in or for taking out. All meals include homemade bread, home-cooked vegetables, slices of cake and a choice of beverages. Take-out orders may be placed by calling the church at (540) 463-5918 from noon until 6 p.m. the day of the dinner. There will be a bazaar in the red building on the church grounds featuring crafts, homemade breads, baked goods, fresh homemade soups and other specialty items. Sales from the bazaar will benefit the Rockbridge Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Helping Hands, a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church.

Pastor Nathaniel Rutan and the Union View Advent Christian Church recently welcomed, baptized and added four new members to the congregation. The church has also added a new addition to its building and wishes to thank all the volunteers who donated their time and expertise to complete the construction. The Union View Church family has begun its annual monetary collection to support missionaries at the Christmas holidays. Special thanks to Iris Jenkins, church treasurer, who has been an integral part of the life and work of the congregation for many years. Mrs. Jenkins will be moving in the coming weeks to be closer to her family. A luncheon will be held in her honor following the Nov. 3 worship service.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is having a raffle drawing on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Effinger firehouse. Twelve winners will be selected for the donated prizes listed on the Effinger Fire Department’s Facebook page. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for 6 tickets or $10 for 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased from any Auxiliary member or by calling Mary Clemmer at (540) 460-3980. Donations to support the work of the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department are greatly appreciated.
