The Rockbridge Area Relief Association (RARA) has been awarded a $2,300 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to purchase meat for its Neighborhood Grocery food pantry.
“We want to thank Food Lion for their continued support,” said RARA programs manager Shadrey Sands. “With their funding, we can continue to offer our clients a wide variety of meats, fresh produce, and other grocery staples.”
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation was established in 2001 and is dedicated to fighting food insecurity within its 10-state service area. Since its founding, the foundation has distributed more than $18.9 million in grants to support organizations that provide critical food resources to their communities.
RARA’s Neighborhood Grocery is open for distribution on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. RARA also offers monthly mobile food pantries throughout the county in collaboration with Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee University. They recently opened the Goshen Grocery, which is open on Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Goshen community center.
