RC Snares Pair Of Road Wins

The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team earned two Valley District road wins last week, defeating William Monroe 3-1 last Tuesday before coasting to a 3-0 victory over Rocktown on Thursday.

With the wins, the Wildcats improved to 9-8 overall and 8-3 in the district.

Against William Monroe (6-11 overall, 2-9 district), the Wildcats captured a 25-19, 2225, 25-19, 25-14 win in Stanardsville to sweep the regular-season series. When the teams met on Sept. 19 at RC, the Wildcats won 3-1.

In the rematch, Jada Hamilton led RC with 16 kills, had 23 digs and served up two aces. Maisen Mckemy paced the Wildcats with 34 assists, while Rebekah Allen had a team-high 27 digs. Mackenzie McCormick added 13 kills and three blocks. Geneva Snyder contributed 13 kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Emmy Duff led RC with four blocks, and Anna Nye had a team-high four aces.

Reviewing the contest, RC head coach Gabe Wagner said, “William Monroe was a nice win for us. We still have a lot of work to do in regard to our consistency, but the girls have been working hard and have been improving every game.

RC 3, Rocktown 0

The Wildcats cruised to a 25-5, 25-14, 25-19 win over Rocktown (2-14, 0-11) on Thursday in Harrisonburg to sweep the regular-season series with their newest district rival. When the teams met on Sept. 24 at RC, the Wildcats also won 3-0.

Snyder led RC with eight kills and added an ace and a block, while Hamilton had 17 digs, six kills and three aces. Allen contributed 17 digs and a team-high five aces, and Mckemy paced the Wildcats with 21 assists. Also stepping up were Claire Taylor with three aces and McCormick with five kills, a block and an ace.

Going over the match, Wagner said, “We were able to get every player on the team in the match, and every one of them went in and made good plays. We played some good volleyball, but still have work to do to keep striving for our potential.”

The Wildcats were scheduled to play host to Spotswood last night and will continue district action at Turner Ashby on Thursday before concluding the regular season at home against Harrisonburg on Tuesday, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m. on both nights. Before the varsity match on Tuesday, the Wildcats will honor Allen, their lone senior.
