Two men, one from Natural Bridge Station and one from Staunton, died following separate single-vehicle accidents in Rockbridge County over the past week.
The Natural Bridge Station man, Harley Ray Miller, 29, was killed in a crash near Goshen Sunday morning.
Virginia State Police reported that his 1991 Ford Ranger was traveling east on Maury River Road, one and two-tenths mile east of Millard Burke Memorial Highway, at 6:47 a.m. when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the embankment. The vehicle then crossed the roadway and fell into the river.
Miller, who was not wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene.
The other fatal wreck occurred last Thursday, Oct. 17, at 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 60, at the intersection of Wesley Chapel Road.
A 2008 Buick Lucerne ran off the right side of the roadway, struck the guardrail, then continued over the embankment rolling over several times, according to the state police.
The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was identified as John Edward Nelson Young, 75, of Staunton. He was transported to Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital, where he later died.
Both crashes remain under investigation
