Spanish Quartet Coming To W&L
The highly acclaimed Spanish quartet Cuarteto Casals will present a concert of chamber music on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. in the Wilson Concert Hall as part of Washington and Lee University’s Concert Guild Series.
Founded in 1997 at the Escuela Reina Sofía in Madrid, Cuarteto Casals celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022/2023. Since its founding and t he a ward o f fi rst p rizes a t t he I nternational String Quartet Competition in London and the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Hamburg, Cuarteto Casals, with its distinctive tonal language, is considered one of the best string quartets in the world. It is now a part of many concert and chamber music series in Europe, North America and Asia, and its members have been the artistic directors of the Barcelona String Quartet Biennale since 2020.
At W&L, Cuarteto Casals will perform Mozart’s Quartet in D Major, K. 499 “Hoffmeister,” Sofia Gubaidulina’s Reflections on the Theme B-A-C-H, and the Quartet in c minor, Op. 51, No. 1 by Johannes Brahms.
