A fire destroyed a house in the Collierstown area on Oct. 18, displacing a family.
According to Kevin Moore, Rockbridge County Fire Rescue deputy chief, firefighters were dispatched to 10 Apple Butter Lane, off of Zollmans Mill Road, just after noon.
The house, he said, was in the process of collapsing when the first units arrived shortly after dispatch, so it was well-involved before it was detected. He noted that no one was home and it is in a remote part of the county.
Units from Effinger, Lexington, Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge County, Natural Bridge, Glasgow, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge Baths were on scene, as well as Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Department.
The cause remains undetermined, he said.
The occupants are staying with relatives until they have another place of residence, said Moore.
