Get Your Candy Bag Ready

It’s Time To Celebrate Halloween In The Cities

The downtowns in Lexington and Buena Vista will be filled with little spooks – and sometimes big spooks - tomorrow afternoon as Halloween returns.

Downtown Lexington trick-or-treating is slated from 3:30 to 5 p.m., while Spooktacular will be back in Buena Vista from 4 to 6 p.m.

In Lexington

Children 12 and under, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to participate in the annual Halloween tradition in Lexington. Sponsored by Main Street Lexington and underwritten by the generosity of the downtown merchants, the afternoon will feature sidewalk trick-or-treating and live entertainment.

The entertainment will start with the Skeleton Dance at the corner of Main Street and Nelson Street at 4 p.m. Down the block at Courthouse Square, the Rockbridge Ballet will perform at 4:15 p.m., followed by Halestone Dance Studio at 4:30 p.m.

As a safety precaution, the central downtown streets will be closed to vehicle traffic to allow the safe passage of the little ones. Closed from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. will be Main Street from Preston Street to Henry Street; Washington Street from Randolph Street to Jefferson Street; and Nelson Street from Randolph Street to Jefferson Street. Members of the Lexington Police Department will be on hand to help direct the flow of pedestrians. Caution while driving is urged.

In Buena Vista

Prepare for a frightfully fun afternoon as Main Street Buena Vista invites families to the annual Spooktacular event.

Local businesses and organizations will be handing out candy to the youngsters, and spooky games – from pumpkin bean bag toss to sack races - will be fun challenges for everyone.

Children can also show off their Halloween creativity in the costume contest. Registration is open until 4:45 p.m. and the contest kicks off at 5 p.m. on the stage in Town Square. Prizes will be awarded for the scariest, cutest, and most original costumes.

Meanwhile, several vendors from the Buena Vista Farmers Market will be setting up in the market pavilion, offering ghoulish goodies perfect for the Halloween season.
