The Rockbridge County High School competition cheerleading team advanced to the Region 3C competition by placing third of eight teams and second in its division at the Valley District competition on Thursday at East Rockingham High School in Elkton.

The top four teams in Class 3 advanced to the Region 3C competition, which will take place on Saturday at noon at Fluvanna County High School in Palmyra. District standings were based on two competitions, Oct. 9 at Turner Ashby and on Thursday at East Rockingham.

Harrisonburg won, while Broadway placed second and RC finished third. Harrisonburg is a Class 5 school and advanced in a different region. Also advancing to the Region 3C competition were Turner Ashby, placing fourth, and East Rockingham, finishing fifth.

Proud of her cheerleaders, RC head coach Shannon Bryan said, “Rockbridge performed with a lot of energy at both district competitions and hit a flawless routine at Turner Ashby, with zero points in deductions. At East Rock, the team pushed through injuries and sickness to put on a show for the fans to advance to regions. This team’s motivation and determination have taken them far, and I look forward to watching them perform at the next level.” Three RC cheerleaders were named all-district. Seniors Addy Clark and Emma Hall were selected to the all-district first team, while senior Emily Humphreys was named to the all-district second team.

Other members of RC’s team are seniors Ella Culp, Myranda Deacon, Addie Flint and Cameron Terry; juniors Lillian Ballard, Gabriella Brown, Riley McDaniel, Emma Mines and Willow Rogers; sophomore Celia Jones and freshmen Sofia Gaydos, Ariana Mitchell and Natasha Shorter.

Helping Bryan guide the Wildcats are assistant coaches Ellie Kabzinski, Sarah Parnell and Lindsey Ramsey.

The top two teams from the Region 3C competition will advance to the Class 3 state competition on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
