The community would like to thank the seven area churches and the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department for sponsoring the trunk-or-treat event for local children and youths in the parking lot of the Effinger firehouse on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26. Thanks to all who contributed candy treats and financial gifts to make the afternoon so special. Church sponsors included the Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Rapps Mill and Union View Advent Christian churches.
The Collierstown United Methodist would like to thank all who came and enjoyed their fall spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday evening, Oct. 26.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will be the scene of much activity this week as final preparations are made for the annual church dinner sponsored by the Presbyterian Women. This year’s event will be held this Saturday, Nov. 2, with starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m. Take out dinners may be ordered on the day of the dinner by calling (540) 463-5918 beginning at noon until 6 p.m.
The Union View Advent Christian Church will honor Iris Jenkins, retiring church treasurer, on Sunday, Nov. 3. Mrs. Jenkins has been an integral part of the life and work of the congregation for many years. She will be moving in the coming weeks to be closer to her family. The church membership will honor her service to the church with a luncheon after the Nov. 3 worship service.
The Union View Advent Christian Church also extends congratulations to church members Correl RaeAnn Rutan and Matthew Harris McCunne who were married on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Central Advent Christian Church in Clifton Forge.
There will be a cakewalk fundraiser for hurricane relief on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Palmer Community Center located at 1230 Blue Grass Trail. Proceeds from the cakewalk will be donated to God’s Pit Crew Disaster Response Team. The event is being sponsored by Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist Church, Collierstown and Mount Horeb United Methodist Churches, Rapps Church, and the Oxford and Collierstown Presbyterian churches.
A raffle drawing will be held by the Effinger Fire Department Auxiliary on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Effinger firehouse. Twelve winners will be selected for the donated prizes listed on the Effinger Fire Department’s Facebook page. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for six tickets or $10 for 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased from any auxiliary member or by calling Mary Clemmer at (540) 460-3980.
