Oct. 23, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: Regarding the approval of Mr. Adamson’s Rockbridge Building on South Main as reported, I congratulate and thank Council members Sigler, Smith, and Straughan and the mayor for voting to approve.
It is much to be desired that our elected officials have a wide variety of interests and connections in our community, and occasionally those will rise to the level that makes recusal necessary. Fair enough.
But often, after a statement making those interests known to the public, their vote in the public interest - well-informed by their various community connections - is fundamentally important for the fairness of such decisions, and much would be lost by frequent recusals.
I thank them for their transparency, and then stepping up and using the judgment that they were elected to use. Well done. RUSS ORRISON Lexington
