Oct. 23, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I’m a Rockbridge veteran who will be voting for Ken Mitchell to replace Ben Cline in the House of Representatives.
I spent most of my life as a Republican. In my last letter I explained my “why” thanks to Ronald Reagan’s respect for the military and a couple of great pay raises he gave us at a time when I was making less than $300 a month as an enlisted infantryman.
I’m an independent voter now.
Our representative government is not perfect. But I want my leaders to be telling us what’s right and where we’re going, not disparaging us, making us feel stupid or in a bad way. And I don’t want to do anything “again.” I want to do new things and adapt to the world as it changes. I want our nation to fix some big problems like our national debt and some of our entitlement spending so that future generations enjoy a better, more prosperous country and better life than I had. And I’ve had a great life.
I look forward. So, Ken Mitchell gets my vote. And hey, Ken: This is not a license or “mandate” to be stupidly liberal. Remember, I can vote.
