Oct. 30, 1974

Dr. G. Douglas Larsen said he had seen an increase in the number of women asking to be screened for breast cancer following the recent radical mastectomies to remove cancerous tumors from Betty Ford and Happy Rockefeller. - The new Von Canon Library at Southern Seminary Junior College was dedicated. Dr. Margaret Durham Robey called it “a dream come true.” - Timmy Wines, the first male telephone operator in Lexington, was profiled in a human interest story in The News-Gazette. Wines was a senior at Lexington High School at the time.

Nov. 3, 2004

Bucky Joyce was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney in a very close race with David Natkin . - Area food pantries struggled to meet the needs of the food insecure residents of Rockbridge. The food pantry at Neriah Baptist Church announced it would be closing Jan. 1, 2005. - The Rockbridge County High School Wildcats were just one win away from their first-ever Valley District Championship.
