The Local History Center of Rockbridge Regional Library System will present “Monacan Messages: Our Drum Beats On” Nov. 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Parry McCluer Middle School. The event is free.
“Monacan Messages” will feature Assistant Chief Lou Branham sharing the history of the Monacan people, Monacan dancers, a drummer and singer, and Native American stories. It will allow the voices of the indigenous people of Rockbridge County to be heard and honored as we educate children that the Monacan people still exist, said a spokesperson.
A significant theme of the program is that we are all connected as we celebrate our differences with empathy, kindness, and respect.
