‘One Book’ Celebration

‘One Book’ Celebration

Students and parents from the Buena Vista school division gathered on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Glen Maury Park, to mark the end of this year’s “One School, One Book” program. The bash included a petting zoo area (above), a fishing game (below), a sloth mascot (at bottom), and other activity stations, all to celebrate students from kindergarten to seventh grade reading the book “Nim’s Island.” The event concluded with a drawing for prizes that went with the book, including fish, hermit crabs, and stuffed animals. During the three weeks prior to the event, students completed a treasure hunt that took them to different businesses in the community. This is Buena Vista City Schools’ third year running this event, and they are “hoping to continue this program for the foreseeable future,” according to Assistant Superintendent Gennifer Miller.
