The Glasgow Public Library will present “Native American Ritual Stone Structures in Rockbridge County” with architectural historian and preservationist Dan Pezzoni on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. This program is part of the Local History Center’s emphasis on Native American life in Rockbridge County.
Centuries ago, Native American peoples built thousands of ritual stone structures across Virginia. This illustrated talk will focus on structures in the Rockbridge area with a special focus on Petites Gap (Arnolds Valley) and House Mountain. The talk will explain how the piles, cairns, wall-like structures, and other forms differ from field clearing piles and other utilitarian historic-period structures Pezzoni is an architectural historian with the nationwide preservation consulting firm Landmark Preservation Associates based in Lexington. He is the author of “The Architecture of Historic Rockbridge.”
