Many thanks to all who supported the cakewalk fundraiser for hurricane relief on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Palmer Community Center. Over $2,100 was raised from the cakewalk and will be donated to God’s Pit Crew Disaster Response Team. The event was hosted by Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist Church, Collierstown and Mount Horeb United Methodist Churches, Rapps Church, and the Oxford and Collierstown Presbyterian Churches. Special thanks to Elaine Higgins and Rosalea Potter who helped coordinate the event.
The Rev. Skip Hastings led the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Nov. 10. He also led the portion of the service ordaining and installing the elder class of 2027. Elders installed in the class of 2027 include Tonya Fontenot, Kirk Goodbar and David McCormick.
The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s Auxiliary will hold a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Effinger firehouse from 4 to 7 p.m. Dinners will be available for purchase with a choice of meat or meatless sauce. The meal will also include salad, garlic bread, dessert and tea or coffee. Patrons may dine in or carry out meals. The cost of a dinner is $14. Meals for children 8 or younger are $9. Cash or check payment for meals will be accepted.
A raffle drawing will be held by the auxiliary at 7 p.m. at the conclusion of the dinner. Twelve winners will be selected for the donated prizes listed on the Effinger Fire Department’s Facebook page. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for 6 tickets, or $10 for 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased from any auxiliary member or at the firehouse beginning at noon on Nov. 16. Funds raised from ticket sales will be used to support the work of the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department.
The Effinger Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Palmer Community Center. The Rev. Daniel Montague, minister of the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb United Methodist churches, will be speaking. The event is sponsored by the Effinger Ruritan Club. A time of fellowship will be provided prior to the service.
The annual Christmas dinner at the Palmer Community Center will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, beginning at 5 p.m. A time of fellowship and the singing of favorite Christmas carols will follow the evening meal. Community residents are invited to attend and to bring a favorite side dish, salad or dessert to share. The main entrée and beverages will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club.
