RC Squad Among State’s Elite Cheerleaders Wrap Up Historic Season In Richmond
Concluding an outstanding season, the Rockbridge County High School competition cheerleading team finished short of the championship round at the Class 3 state competition, placing eighth on Saturday at the Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
The Wildcats scored 208.25 points in the competition, won by Cave Spring (274.5).
RC had placed third in the Valley District before winning its first-ever Region 3C title a week earlier in Palmyra. This was the Wildcats’ first time advancing to the state competition since 1999, when they placed third in the Region III competition and eighth in the state. Another highlight this season was winning the home competition, the Wildcat Rumble, on Sept. 18.
The RC cheerleaders had a busy and exciting weekend, cheering the Wildcats’ football team during the 28-6 home win over William Monroe in the final game of the season on Friday night before leaving for Richmond on Saturday morning. A large contingent of RC fans made the trip to support the cheerleaders.
Praising her cheerleaders, RC head coach Shannon Bryan said, “From our Senior Night football game last night to our cheerleading state competition today, I am beyond proud of this team and how far they’ve come. These girls have given it their everything all season long, and it paid off. Everyone always counts Rockbridge out but this team created new fans this year and showed everyone just how amazing they are.”
“The last two performances of this year were flawless, and that is the best way to leave your mark,” added Bryan. “I am so glad they got to live this state competition experience because I know it is a memory they will always remember. The bonds they have created, the laughs, the tears, I hope all of it will be forever cherished.”
Cheerleaders for the Wildcats are seniors Addy Clark, Ella Culp, Addie Flint, Emma Hall, Emily Humphreys, Myranda Deacon and Cameron Terry; juniors Lillian Ballard, Gabriella Brown, Riley McDaniel, Emma Mines and Willow Rogers; sophomore Celia Jones and freshmen Sofia Gaydos, Ariana Mitchell and Natasha Shorter.
Helping Bryan guide the Wildcats were assistant coaches Ellie Kabzinski, Sarah Parnell and Lindsey Ramsey.
