Nov. 9, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I want to thank President Biden for guiding our great ship of state back into safe and productive waters over the past four years, for restoring dignity to our country and its position of world leadership through his humility, effective leadership, and lack of vengeful bombast. How reassuring to breath such fresh air again.
I want to thank him for keeping a looming recession at bay; doggedly fighting to bring inflation down; guarding our Medicare and Social Security; honoring our military and especially the veterans of war; lowering drug costs; increasing wages; reducing unemployment; allocating funds not only to heal our seriously ill planet but also to rebuild its aged infrastructure; standing by Ukraine during its nightmare war, fully aware of what could easily occur if Russia is allowed to dominate this independent, democratic country on the fringes of Europe; respecting people of all nations and all walks of life that encouraged a sense of peace, stability and hope to a world otherwise embroiled in violent, discordant turmoil.
I would like to thank President Biden for tirelessly embracing our democracy and constitution that should ever be the unshakable cornerstones of our country.
Did he make mistakes? Of course. No one is perfect. But nobody could have done a better job. Above all else, his intent was for the greater good of our country and all humanity.
I would like to thank him for his life of service to our great nation: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23) SARAH CLAYTON Rockbridge County
