Parry McCluer High School sophomore Olive King placed seventh in the 100-yard freestyle and eighth in the girls’ 50-yard freestyle at the Class 1 and 2 state swim meet on Saturday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
King, PM’s lone swimmer, completed the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.13 and the 50-yard freestyle in 27.1 seconds. It was her first time competing at the state meet, after narrowly missing advancing last year.
Coached by Erica Bisaillon, King was the Region 1C and 2C champion in the 100-yard freestyle on Feb. 9 in Christiansburg. She also competed in the 200-yard freestyle at the regional meet, placing third in 2:09, but she chose instead to swim in the 50-yard freestyle at the state meet after qualifying by time in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races mid-January.
