Rockbridge Connect and Nourish (Rockbridge CAN) will be providing free community dinners today, Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Palmer Community Center located at 1230 Blue Grass Trail. The meals are professionally catered and served dine-in style from 6 to 7 p.m. Community residents are invited to attend and enjoy the food and fellowship The Effinger Community Thanksgiving service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Palmer Community Center. The Rev. Daniel Montague, minister of the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb United Methodist churches, will be speaking. The event is sponsored by the Effinger Ruritan Club and supported by the churches in the Collierstown, Buffalo and Effinger areas. A time of fellowship will be provided prior to the service.
The annual Christmas dinner at the Palmer Community Center will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, beginning at 5 p.m. A time of fellowship and the singing of favorite Christmas carols will follow the evening meal. Community residents are invited to attend and to bring a favorite side dish, salad or dessert to share. T he m ain e ntrée a nd beverages will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, from 2 until 3:30 p.m., Santa will be coming to Collierstown to visit boys and girls in the pavilion at the Collierstown Baptist Church located at 3926 Collierstown Road. S anta’s v isit i s b eing hosted by the community’s seven churches ‑ Collierstown Baptist, Presbyterian, United Methodist, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Mill and Union View Advent Christian churches. Children will be able to drop off letters to Santa, talk with Santa, and have their pictures taken with him. The Effinger Ruritan Club will sponsor pictures with Santa courtesy of Bluegrass Photography.
