Safari Park Conducts Annual Coat Drive

The Virginia Safari Park is hosting its 23rd annual “Coats for Kids” charity drive event on Black Friday, Nov. 29.

The Safari Park donates the proceeds of the day to purchase new winter coats for children in need in Rockbridge County.

The Virginia Safari Park only provides brand new, well-designed winter coats to children within the county’s four local elementary schools, Central, Natural Bridge, Fairfield and Mountain View.

“A warm coat is a daily essential here for all children. Our coat drive is about keeping every child warm, healthy and able to play outside during the winter months.” said Rick Mogensen, park director. “Black Friday at the Safari Park is just a fun way to give back to the community and support a good cause. Visiting the Safari Park on Black Friday helps give the gift of warmth to local children in need.”

During the past 22 years, Coats for Kids has delivered more than 3,000 coats and continues to have a strong cumulative impact on the local community.

After the Black Friday turnout at the Park, the new coats will be purchased, wrapped and delivered by the Safari Park staff to each school by mid-December, just before Christmas break.
