Two Rockbridge County High School football players received all-district honors last week, while RC volleyball player Jada Hamilton was named to the allregion second team.
For the football team, senior Gabe Wade was named to the all-district second team as a linebacker, while junior Marshall Earhart was selected to the alldistrict second team as a kick returner. Wade, also a running back, scored the final touchdown of the season in the Wildcats’ 28-6 home win over William Monroe on Nov. 8. Earhart, also a running back and defensive back, scored on a 72-yard kickoff return earlier in that game.
Under the direction of thirdyear head coach Martin Cox, the Wildcats were 2-8 overall and 2-4 in the Valley District this year. Their other win was a 26-17 road victory over Harrisonburg on Oct. 11.
For the Wildcats’ volleyball team, Hamilton, an outside hitter, was a force at the net, generally leading RC in kills. Under the direction of first-year head coach Gabe Wagner, the Wildcats went 12-11 this season, going 9-5 in the Valley District. As the 11th seed in the Region 3C tournament, they made a surprise run to the Region 3C semifinals by pulling off a pair of 3-2 upsets over sixth-seeded Western Albemarle and third-seeded East Rockingham before falling at second-seeded Alleghany 3-1 on Monday of last week.
