Area residents are invited to bring their family and friends to Boxerwood on Saturday, Dec. 7, between 1 and 5 p.m. for the nature center’s annual Gifts of Nature program.
Attendees will be able to craft decorations that feed the winter birds and spruce up their home, inside and out.
“Twist honeysuckle and grapevine into wreaths or swags, and then tie on birdhealthy treats, such as cranberry garlands, dried fruit kabobs, peanut-buttered pinecones, and suet-filled citrus cups,” said a spokeswoman.
A crafts table will be stocked for making one-of-akind ornaments and gifts of nature for attendees’ favorite humans, too!
Boxerwood will provide vines, cones, winter berries, and greenery, as well as suet, raffia, ribbon and other project supplies. Families are asked to bring one type of wildlife food, such as birdseed, nuts in shells, dried fruits, popcorn, or fresh cranberries, to share with other participants.
The cost of this program is $10 cash or check per family ($5 for member families). No RSVP required.
The program takes place outdoors under the big pavilion and on the lawn area in front of the lodge, so dress for the weather. There will be a wood fire and warm cider to help keep everyone warm and spirits high.
In the event of rain, the program will be postponed to Sunday, Dec. 8. Boxerwood is located at 963 Ross Road just outside of Lexington. For more information or weather updates, visit Boxerwood on Facebook, @loveboxerwood, or www.boxerwood.org, or call (540) 463-2697.
