Do you remember writing a letter to Santa Claus when you were a child? The U.S. Postal Service’s Operation Santa actually can make those letters to Santa come true for children who may not otherwise have a magical holiday.
USPS Operation Santa provides an online channel where people can safely and securely help families have a merry Christmas – one letter to Santa at a time. The process starts when a child, with the help of a parent or guardian, writes a letter to Santa with the child’s holiday wishes. The child’s full name and full return address must be in the letter. The letter is then mailed to Santa Claus, 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888. Proper postage needs to be affixed to the letter. Mail the letter at any post office or outgoing mail box. Letters need to be postmarked between Sept. 16 and Dec. 9.
If you’d like to play Santa to one of these children in need, go to www.uspsoperationsanta. com and click on the “Sign Up To Adopt” button. You’ll be guided through a process to set up an account, and then you can adopt a letter and start shopping for your letter-writer.
Remember, packages need to be mailed by Dec. 16 to arrive in time for Christmas.
We know that there are a lot of programs like this – angel trees, the Rockbridge Christmas Baskets program. This is just another way to share the Christmas spirit with others.
