The Lexington Woman’s Club has announced the winners of its annual writing contest held for area students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Students were presented certificates at an awards’ ceremony held Wednesday evening, Feb. 8, at Lexington Presbyterian Church. This contest is one of several educational endeavors that the LWC supports in the Rockbridge area.
Students competed with their poetry and short stories in four categories according their grade in school: Category 1 (grades K-2); Category 2 (grades 3-5); Category 3 (grades 6-8); Category 4 (grades 9-12). The first-place winning entries from both short story and poetry in each category will advance to the General Federation of Women’s Club’s Shenandoah District competition.

Second place: “Escape of the Earthquake Chamber” by Annalese Mahaffey, Enderly Heights Elementary School.
Third place: “Licky Chicky and Magic Pickle” by William Ditzel, Waddell.
