Sounds Of The Season At Senior Center

Sounds Of The Season At Senior Center
THE MAURY River Pickers and Singers put on a festive show last December and promise to bring back more sounds of the season during this year’s Christmas concert on Dec. 20. The Pickers and Singers are a 16-22 person band playing everything from folk to bluegrass to ecclesiastical music. They practice at Maury River Senior Services on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Newcomers are welcome.

The Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) Maury River Senior Services Pickers and Singers will spread some holiday joy at their Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 20, at noon.

This group of talented musicians have a long-standing history of performing enjoyable shows for others, but they also reap the benefits of making music together.

Founder Ray Blouin believes playing music is very good for the brain, and finds as much joy enriching the lives of his fellow musicians as he does performing on stage. Many community members join the band not knowing how to play anything, and then they learn.

“Our goal is to make people happy and to keep our brains healthy,” said Blouin. “It’s a delight to work with them and a delight to see how the audience responds each month.”

The concert will feature seasonal favorites and will be held at Maury River Senior Services, which is located at 2137 Magnolia Ave. in Buena Vista. There is no cost to attend, no need to register in advance, and all are welcome.
