Tuesday, Jan. 10 -- The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team improved to 10-2 on the season with a 44-34 victory over Nelson County in a non-district matchup in Buena Vista.
Anna Claytor tallied 13 points and nine rebounds for PM, while Victoria Hamilton finished with 11 points and three assists. Payton Emore and Tatyana Turner chipped in eight points apiece for the Blues.
Rachel Thompson scored a game-high 14 points and added eight rebounds for the Governors (2-7). Serinity Green recorded 11 points and nine boards for NC, and Tamya Vest-Turner added seven markers.
PM led 26-18 at halftime, only to see the Governors storm back in the third quarter to claim a 30-29 edge on Thompson's bucket with 2:17 to go. But the Blues responded with a 9-3 run in the last 1:07 of the period, and they limited NC to a single point in the final frame to pull away for the win.
The Blues will return to the court next Tuesday, Jan. 17, when they visit Pioneer District foe Craig County.
