Glasgow Post Office Concerns Raised

Dec. 2, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: For some weeks, the citizens of Glasgow, including those living in the 24555 zip code rural routes, have had serious interruptions in mail service.

Unfortunately when those individuals reached out to the Glasgow Post Office, including calls to the postmaster, they got little or no response.

For months, the post office has been poorly staffed with individuals who seem unconcerned about the problems customers are encountering.

In fact, those who have post office boxes often find mail misplaced in their boxes. More seriously, however, is the fact that those living in rural areas are not getting their utility bills, newspapers, packages and other mail in a timely manner. On Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, the post office was dark and locked for part of the day. I encountered a handicapped gentleman on Saturday morning who had driven in from the country to retrieve his mail and some shipped medications. The office was closed.

The people of Glasgow deserve better service than this and as an elected official, I am not only embarrassed but angry by this kind of disservice and breach of trust …without explanation.
