Maj. James R. Berger was released by Hanoi, having been a prisoner of war in North Vietnam since 1966. -A fifth grade science text book now had an insert warning of a certain experiment in the book that could be potentially dangerous if performed in an uncontrolled environment. - More than 60 people crowded into the Glasgow firehouse urging congressman M. Caldwell Butler to support the removal of the Balcony Falls dam located below the town.

The Rockbridge Partnership, the area’s economic development marketing group, announced that an international bottled water company was purchasing an 18-month option on land near Big Spring as a possible site for a spring water bottling plant. - Heavy rain, combined with melting snow and ice from a previous winter storm, sent streams and rivers in the area out of their banks and closed portions of many roads. - Lexington School Board members unanimously approve the proposed $5.3 million budget, an overall increase of 2.1 percent over the previous year.
