A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 south of Lexington late Monday resulted in two injuries and snarled traffic throughout the center of Rockbridge County.
The accident occurred around 5 p.m. near mile marker 183.5 southbound.
One critically injured patient was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and another patient was transported to Rockbridge Community Hospital, according to Nathan Ramsey, Rockbridge County fire/rescue chief.
Responding agencies included the Natural Bridge Fire Department, Glasgow Fire Department, Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue, Glasgow Life Saving Crew and Lexington Fire Department.
The Virginia State Police did not have a report of the accident available Tuesday.
