Ellen Campbell was elected Tuesday to the 24th District seat in the House of Delegates. She is to be sworn in Wednesday, the first day of the 2023 session of the General Assembly.
Unofficial results indicated Campbell, the Republican nominee to succeed her late husband, Ronnie Campbell, who died Dec. 13, was taking about 65 percent of the vote district-wide to defeat the Democratic nominee, Jade Harris.
Campbell was the choice of a majority of voters in Rockbridge County and Buena Vista while Harris received the majority of votes in Lexington. The 24th District encompasses all three Rockbridge area jurisdictions as well as all of Bath County and parts of Amherst and Augusta counties.
