The Collierstown and Mt. Horeb churches of the Collierstown United Methodist Church worshipped together virtually due to inclement weather on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Rev. Daniel Montague led the worship service lighting the Advent candle of Joy. The Collierstown United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Billy and Alisa Cummings led the lighting the Advent Candle of Joy as a part of the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its children’s Christmas program during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 22, in the church sanctuary. Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. The church’s Christmas Eve services will be held at 3 and 9 p.m. on Dec. 24.

The Union View Advent Christian Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 for members and community friends. The church is located at 4574 Turnpike Road, Lexington.

The Effinger Ruritan Club’s 2025 Community Birthday Calendars have arrived. Club members will be contacting patrons and distributing calendars during the coming week. Additional calendars may be purchased by contacting any Ruritan Club member. The cost of a calendar is $4.

The Effinger Ruritan Club held its December meeting and Christmas activity on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. at the Seclusion. Following the evening meal, Club President Chris Cartwright reviewed the club’s work during 2024, thanking all who contributed to the successful year of community service by the Effinger Club.

Cartwright then named and recognized Lynda Mundy-Norris Miller as the Effinger Ruritan of the Year for her leadership, contributions to the club, and her outstanding community service. Those named as cocitizens of the year were Mark Fontenot and Rufus Tyree for their service to the community.

Club officers for 2025 were introduced and installed by outgoing Natural Bridge District Governor Dianne Swink. Those installed were Chris Cartwright, president; Ruth Ann Parsons, vice president; Stewart Fleming, treasurer; Elaine Nelson, secretary; and club directors Richard Davis (three-year term), Geoff Goodbar (two-year term) and Mitch Wapner (one-year term).

Following the installment of officers, Chris Cartwright was recognized for his leadership as president in 2024 and was presented with a gift by the club. Janet Drake was introduced as the incoming Natural Bridge District governor. The evening concluded with musical entertainment and group singing led by John and Diana Schofield.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will host a Christmas Dance on Saturday evening, Dec. 21, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Music will be provided by The Worx. The doors will open at 8 p.m. Patrons must have tickets in hand for admission. The cost of a ticket is $25 per person and patrons must be 21 years old. Food items that will be sold include hamburgers/ cheeseburgers, corn dog nuggets, mozzarella sticks with marinara, and individual cheese or pepperoni pizzas. Soft drinks and coffee will be available for purchase. Tickets may be purchased by calling (540) 460-3980.
