Dec. 13, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: The response to the call for board members means Rockbridge Animal Alliance will continue its mission of keeping pets and families together as well as championing animal welfare in Rockbridge County.
There will be a few changes. While RAA couldn’t secure enough volunteers to continue to operate a physical pet food pantry, emergency pet food assistance is now available every three months to clients — at rockbridgeanimalalliance.org. RAA is proud to have distributed over 15,000 pounds of cat and dog food in 2024.
The need is great, and the Rockbridge community continues to help meet it. Unopened pet food donations — dry or wet food for adults, seniors, puppies, and kittens — are always welcome at collection sites at Tractor Supply and RARA. Treats, flea and tick preventatives, toys, collars, and leashes make a big difference, too. These donations continue to ensure that pets and their families get the support they need.
RAA made incredible progress in its low-cost spay and neuter program this past year with completion of 120 spay and neuter requests costing $11,170.95. RAA also contributed $6,525.08 in veterinary care — all made possible by the generosity of local and national grants, support from local businesses, and donations from this amazing community.
Every dollar has made a real difference. We especially thank Rockbridge’s hardworking and dedicated veterinarians, vet techs, and staff, and their willingness to take on new cases and reduce costs.
Rockbridge Animal Alliance is inspired and determined, and will continue to support families keeping their pets happy and healthy. MAURINE M. HOUSER, RAA board chair MARY HARVEY-HALSETH, RAA secretary
