Linebacker Jalen Todd of the Washington and Lee University football team added another accolade to his phenomenal senior season, as he was named a Second Team All-American by the Associated Press on Thursday.
Todd becomes the 19th player in program history to earn the prestigious honor from the organization and the first since Josh Breece (Class of 2022) was named a Second Team All-American in 2017.
The Louisville, Ky. native added another All-America accolade to his resume after being selected to the First Team on the American Football Coaches Association All-America team earlier this month. He also earned Second Team All-Region honors from D3football.com, in addition to being a First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection and the conference's Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year. Todd was also named a finalist for the Willie Lanier Award, the best player in the Commonwealth of Virginia among the Division II, III and NAIA levels. He received 50 votes to finish in second place in the voting, two points behind Jada Byers of Virginia Union - the 2024 recipient of the award.
Todd had a breakout senior season for the Blue and White, helping them go 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the ODAC, ending their season with a 40-21 win over Wilkes University in the Cape Henry Bowl in Salem, the first postseason bowl win in school history. Todd recorded 124 total tackles, averaging 11.3 tackles per game — which ranks fifth and eighth in Division III this season, respectively. Todd posted double-digit tackles in five games, including a career-high 22 tackles in the Blue and White's 40-23 win over Guilford College on October 19. His 22 stops are the second-most in a single game this season in Division III and the third-most across all NCAA divisions. In addition to his tackles, Todd registered 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, while also breaking up two passes this season.
