Dec. 18, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: This letter concerns Mike Lowery’s piece in the Dec. 11 issue. In his headline, like a small child waiting for Christmas he’s wishing his life away, letting us know the president- elect can’t take control soon enough, ostensibly to right the ship of state.
His reasoning is spelled out about the current administration’s pardon of his son and response to the disaster that befell western North Carolina and Virginia. He goes on to quote various figures and alleged facts. All which are easily checked and therein is my issue with his piece.
Like his previous piece where he claimed that the people won out over money, completely ignoring that the world’s richest man as well as Tech and Bitcoin billionaires were shoveling money into PACs supporting DJT.
Like that argument, the Dec. 11 piece is based on some cherrypicked facts and one false claim, about funds diverted to illegals. His pearl clutching regarding the pardon ignores the former president’s pardon of Stone, Manafort, Mike Flynn and Charles Kushner (who was convicted of a tax evasion charge like Hunter) but Kushner gets a pardon and a job in the new administration.
His opinions are written to put the current administration in a bad light, echoing the rightwing media bubble, all of which is completely slanted toward obfuscation and misinformation, billionaire media moguls paying millionaire cos-playing journalist to amplify their personal biases toward the government.
Mr. Lowery maybe wishing his life away expecting cheaper eggs but if Mr. Trump gets his way, Mr. Lowery may lose his life when “47” eliminates the various departments he has on his hit list: FBI, FDA, HHS, FCC, NOAA, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, NASA, Post Office just to name a few. A list that also include some notable congressional members that upheld their oath of office.
Mr. Lowery may see better days ahead but judging from the first go round with DJT I think the Magic 8 Ball says “Not Likely.” MARK BENNETT Natural Bridge
