Mick-or-Mack Stores Co. Inc., a western Virginia chain of supermarkets, announced plans to open a store in Lexington in late 1975. - Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mahoney came home for lunch one day, much to the surprise of a burglar who was running out of their house with $100 worth of silver and $2 bills. - Five area men pleaded guilty in federal court in Roanoke to a charge of conspiring to import hashish with a street value of $150,000 from Morocco to Virginia.

Area school children shared their New Year’s resolutions with News-Gazette readers. Second grader Christy Dixey pledged to get more Rottweilers while Austin Steil Tomlin promised to listen to his mother more. -An auction was held to sell off many of the items left behind after Spanky’s restaurant closed in September. It has been a popular spot for socializing for 28 years. - Cousins Richard Todd Hamric and Shawn Derek Hamric became the third generation to operate Hamric Memorials, a family owned business that began selling stone memorials in 1927.
