The Interstate 81 accident between Lexington and Fancy Hill last Monday evening, Dec. 9, involved a car traveling at a high rate of speed, according to information from the Virginia State Police received after last week’s paper was published.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at 4:56 p.m. at the 183.6 mile marker.
A 2014 Mazda 3 was traveling south on Interstate 81 at a speed of 100 mph, lost control and struck a 2025 Toyota Camry also traveling south, according to the police report. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts and transported for injuries received in the crash. One of the injured was flown from the scene.
Charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
