Two Airlifted Following Three-Vehicle Crash

A three-vehicle accident on U.S. 11 about a mile south of Lexington on Dec. 26 left one person trapped in their car and a separate vehicle in flames. 

Lexington Fire Chief Ty Dickerson said that around 11:50 on Thursday morning, Lexington firefighters arrived on the scene, extinguished the fire in the burning vehicle, and freed the trapped individual.

A total of six patients were treated on the scene, with assistance from Buena Vista Rescue and Kerrs Creek Rescue. Five patients were transported by ambulance to Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital, while one patient was taken from the scene directly to the helipad at the hospital to be airlifted. Another of the patients was taken inside the hospital to be stabilized, and afterwards flown to a regional trauma center for more treatment, according to Dickerson.

Sgt. Rick Garletts, a public information officer with the Virginia State Police, noted via email that all injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening.
