Friday, Dec. 27 -- The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team rode a dominant second quarter to a 51-34 victory over Parry McCluer in Lexington.
Abby Bouchard scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Wildcats (4-4) recorded their first win over PM since the 2019-20 campaign. Victoria Hamilton led the Fighting Blues (4-1) with 12 points, and she also snared six boards.
The game was tied at 10-10 after the opening period, but RC outscored PM 19-5 in the pivotal second stanza, holding the Blues without a field goal in the period in building up a 29-15 halftime lead. Emma Clark scored all eight of her points during the quarter, going 5-for-5 at the foul line, and Bouchard notched seven of her markers during the frame.
Natalie Mohler opened the third quarter with a triple for PM, trimming the margin to 29-18. But the Wildcats responded with an 11-2 spurt, and they would maintain a double-digit margin throughout the second half.
Ruby Goodhart chipped in eight points and eight rebounds for RC. Natalie Samante added seven points for the Wildcats, while Bella Dorey totaled six points, five assists and four rebounds.
Mohler posted eight points and five rebounds for the Blues, and Peira Conner contributed six points and a game-high 10 boards.
PM returns to action at Altavista on Thursday, beginning with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m. RC will travel to Harrisonburg next Friday, Jan. 3, with the JV tip set for 6 p.m. The Wildcats and Blues will then meet again in Buena Vista at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4.
